You can disable the creation of short file names if there are no old applications that need it.
Run the application regedit.exe and select the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
edit or create (if doesn't exist) the following value:
"NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation"=dword:1
