Just after the execution of the BIOS runs the bootloader...
normally for default, there is a waiting time of about 20 seconds.
If you use Grub, to change this timeout just edit the file menu.lst or grub.conf which are respectively in the directories /boot/grub or /etc/grub and change the value of the line that contains the word timeout.
